All of these user profiles have been imported and indexed for search within SharePoint Server 2010, with “contoso\administrator” granted administrator permissions. SharePoint Server 2010 has been configured in a “Complete” farm using Kerberos authentication and the default SQL Server 2008 instance for data, and has a site collection created using the Team Site template at http://intranet.contoso.com/ and a FAST Search Center at http://intranet.contoso.com/search/. Performance Considerations 1. If possible, unpack and run the VM image on a separate, fast hard drive (7200 RPM or better) from the operating system of the host machine. If this is being done on a laptop, a second internal drive or external eSATA drive works best, though USB 2.0 (make sure it's 2.0, 1.1 is too slow) or Firewire is acceptable. For absolute best performance use a second internal SSD drive.
The activity feed in SharePoint 2010 is very interesting. It is a way to see and read what your co-workers are doing. Most of your actions in SP2010 will end up in the activity feed.

If you've got a SharePoint site sitting around, I'd encourage you to open it in another window and follow along as I talk about things.
Let's start by just browsing to a document library with no content.
The first thing you'll notice is that we've moved some of the navigation and menus around. The stuff right in the middle (Site Name > Document Library > All Documents) is your current location. You can click on the Site Name to get back home, and you can click on the view name (All Documents) to switch to another view. Above the title, you see there's a black row - this is where you go to access all your commands. I’ll talk more about that later. Below the title, you see the list view items. Right now there are no items, so let's fix that. ….

There’s been a lot of interest in the demo that was done at the SharePoint Conference where we used XSLT to visualize a contact list as a map. We have existing information out there on this topic so we wanted to bring it all together in one blog entry. I’ll also walk through the XSL file that was used in our demo and provide some pointers on how to use it for your own development.

Tow points very differents, first this site is on-line with SPS2010 (Yes !) Second Windows 7 for SPS2010 (I do it, that is a great solution for tests).
Today I set out to install SharePoint Server 2010 on my local machine running Windows 7 Professional. This was one of the things I was most looking forward to about 2010, being able to develop locally is not only great for the developers out there, but also for us SharePoint Branding folks, i.e. web designers. It makes life SOOOOOO much easier when you don’t have to wrangle virtual machines in order to build out some master pages! So, needless to say, I was really looking forward to making this setup happen for myself.
So, there is an article you can follow on MSDN, which guides you through MOST of what you’ll need to do w/ the current beta that’s out there. However, when it comes to getting the configuration wizard to complete successfully, you’ll need to follow some extra steps, unsupported ones at that. Until the Hot fix comes out this is the only way you’ll get your installation up and running.

PowerShell Intro for SharePoint Administrators - Part 1
PowerShell has been nicely integrated into SharePoint 2010 and is the eventual replacement of stsadm. Stsadm still exists with SharePoint 2010 for backward compatibility reasons but PowerShell is here to stay and will be the most widely adopted and used out of the two. Installing the SharePoint Server 2010 Public Beta on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft Windows 7, then you will need to download and install an update from http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/Downloads/DownloadDetails.aspx?DownloadID=23806 to resolve an issue that occurs in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 when provisioning Service Applications or when accessing pages that make service calls. Without the hotfix, these operations will result in an error "System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Unrecognized attribute 'allowInsecureTransport'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive. (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\WebClients\<Service Area>\client.config line <Line Number>)".

The recommendation for a single server build of SharePoint 2010 is to use the Stand Alone installation giving you SQL express and a default configuration. But what if you want to use SQL Server 2008 and to have more control over the build, and to use local service accounts. Since SharePoint 2010 has been made available for MSDN/TechNet subscriber now, here’re some steps you would like to follow to get a successful installation. But keep in mind: This beta is not supported and you CANNOT upgrade the installation to RTM when it’s released. This Beta should only be used for evaluation purpose.

This article provides an overview of the LINQ to SharePoint provider, which enables you to use Language Integrated Query (LINQ) queries in your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation solutions. The provider also enables changing data using optimistic concurrency. Object change tracking and rollback in the event of conflicts is also supported by LINQ to SharePoint.

Most of us got this question .. what will happen to the custom web parts and customization we developed for Sharepoint 2007 ? .. will it work under Sharepoint 2010 or we have to reinvest in modifying them, fortunately i got these information from Microsoft :)
Custom code written for the 2007 version of SharePoint will work on a 2010 installation without requiring the customizations to be re-written… see more on this blog :

The server-packages of October 2009 Cumulative Update for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 are ready for download. October 2009 Cumulative Updates introduce more rules on Pre-Upgrade Checker, which can help customers to prepare the upgrade of their SharePoint farm to SharePoint 2010.
In the Upgrade to SharePoint 2007 there were 3 popular methods. In Place, Gradual, and Database Attach. In place was a scenario that many of us took as a no starter and many of us even went so far as to say NEVER do it. Now the message is there are two methods for upgrade. In place and Database attach. Despite the fact that gradual upgrade as we knew it is dead, what we got from gradual upgrade we still have. What do I mean?

As you are all aware the SharePoint 2010 NDA was lifted last week at the Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2009. So from now on there should be lots of posts about what 2010 can do and how it can be used. In this post I will walk you through the basic install, setting all the services and end up creating a base internet portal. As a note to start I am using the Tech Preview version of SharePoint 2010 which will look slightly different when it hits the public beta.
Welcome to SharePoint Designer 2010! As Todd Haugen mentioned in his latest blog, we’ve got a number of wonderful features this release and we’re really excited to get them into your hands. This is a follow-up blog to dive into the new shell, or user interface, of SPD 2010. I think this is one of the greatest enhancements for the 2010 release. The new shell of SPD 2010 targets new and old users alike by highlighting SharePoint artifacts (not the folder structure they’re stored in), presenting key information you want to know about those artifacts, bubbling the tools and commands up to the Ribbon, and giving you intuitive navigation to explore, modify, and create rich and powerful SharePoint sites.
We published evaluation guides for SharePoint 2010 at the conference a few weeks ago. Reading these guides is a great way to get familiar with SharePoint 2010 and get ready for the beta. Highly recommended
Disk2vhd is a utility that creates VHD (Virtual Hard Disk - Microsoft’s Virtual Machine disk format) versions of physical disks for use in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs). The difference between Disk2vhd and other physical-to-virtual tools is that you can run Disk2vhd on a system that’s online. Disk2vhd uses Windows’ Volume Snapshot capability, introduced in Windows XP, to create consistent point-in-time snapshots of the volumes you want to include in a conversion. You can even have Disk2vhd create the VHDs on local volumes, even ones being converted (though performance is better when the VHD is on a disk different than ones being converted).
This is a project for SharePoint 2010 Sandboxed Solutions. The goal of the project is to create a directory of solutions for Site Collection Administrators. Solutions are delivered as WSP packages.
