With this book, you’ll gain intermediate-level guidance for designing and deploying exciting business solutions based on Microsoft SharePoint 2010.
It has always been a challenge to find the superman that knows both, data ware housing concepts, and SharePoint concepts. The data ware housing concepts include basic stuff you need to know to work in the BI area such as cubes, MDX queries, etc. So chapter 1 covers that – and if you’re a hardcore DBA, feel free to skip Chapter 1. Then beyond that, we take every single SharePoint 2010 BI topic, and slice and dice it in detail. The topics we deal with are
And in covering each of these topics, we ensure that a general layout was followed for each topic, to ensure completeness of content. We make sure we cover

One more commonly overlooked component of a successful implementation is staffing. Architects and administrators usually do a good job creating a bill of goods for hardware and software, but they often forget to secure funding for personnel to adequately develop and maintain systems. SharePoint can consume a large amount of human resources if used to its full potential. Understand what types of dedicated personnel are required in the beginning, and start getting stakeholders' support immediately. The table below offers a suggested staffing schedule for you to consider. (Note: F = One full time person and P = One part time person.)
This page to gather all articles on SharePoint governance I have published:
Governance is a key component to ensuring the success of your SharePoint 2010 deployment, and one we frequently get asked about it as we travel to conferences and events. Represented by a set of established processes, procedures, and stakeholders, a well designed and implemented governance plan promotes adoption, ensures participation, and maximizes ROI. By using the governance techniques, best practices, and recommendations available below, you can align your policies for using SharePoint 2010 with your culture and goals while still enabling teams and individuals to effectively collaborate and share information.
With Office 365, you can take advantage of sophisticated collaboration and messaging capabilities without the operational burden of on-premises server software. Office 365 keeps you in control and provides business-class reliability, high availability, comprehensive security, simplified management, and familiar user interface so that you can confidently choose it as your collaboration and communication solution.
When users store more documents and larger media documents in SharePoint libraries, performance, scalability, and manageability challenges occur for SharePoint administrators. The Remote BLOB Storage (RBS) feature in SharePoint Server 2010 addresses these challenges. This paper explains the RBS feature as it applies to SharePoint Server 2010 and analyzes its performance impacts on key attributes of a SharePoint farm such as database size, database backup size, transaction response times, and backup/restore time.

Microsoft has discovered a critical issue in the recently released October Cumulative Updates for SharePoint Server 2010 and Project Server 2010, and we have removed the files from download availability. If you have already downloaded the CU, donot install it. If you have installed the CU, please contact Microsoft Support for assistance. We will be posting additional information about the issue here as soon as we have it, and will make the Cumulative Update available for download again as soon as the issue has been fully resolved.
The SharePoint 2010 Easy Setup Script is a new set of pre-packaged tools that help developers easily get started with SharePoint 2010 development by automating the provisioning of a developer workstation using Windows 7, SharePoint & associated tools.
Written in Windows PowerShell these scripts will install and configure all the pre-requisites & products to get you up and running with SharePoint development.
Additionally the script will download evaluation copies of the products it installs (or use fully licensed product bits you supply), install them either locally or in a user supplied Windows 7 VHD & set that VHD up for duel boot using the Windows 7 VHD native boot feature. It also allows you to configure what products are installed via a configuration file, so you can add or remove products.
All the source is included for your use. If a particular aspect of the setup isn’t right for your requirements then you have the ability to change it. A good example of this might be to configure the SharePoint installation to fit your organizations standard deployment.
Out of the box it will help you install:
- SharePoint Server 2010 + pre-requisites (Standalone)
- Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition
- Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio
- Expression Studio 4 Ultimate
- Open XML SDK
- Visual Studio SDK
- Visual Studio SharePoint Power Tools
- Office 2010 Professional Plus
- SharePoint Designer 2010
- Visio 2010
Federated Search Connectors allow a search solution based on any Microsoft Enterprise Search product (Microsoft Search Server 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft FAST Search for SharePoint 2010, Microsoft Search Server 2008, or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007) to pass a query to a target system and accept and display results from that system. This connector returns results from the YourTube video sharing site. See the Federated Search Connector Gallery for other connectors and instructions for using connectors with specific Microsoft Enterprise Search products.
Again Stefan Grossner is on top off things, there is another Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint foundation:

With SharePoint 2010 we now have the ability to allow SharePoint to manage various service accounts thus foregoing the need to have IT administrators manually manage password changes. This new feature is a great benefit to SharePoint administrators and security conscious admins in general as it allows us to easily enforce our corporate security policies by changing these passwords on a schedule, and the administrators don’t even know what the password is so the likelihood of a compromise due to a disgruntled admin, though not eliminated, is somewhat reduced.
This document provides information, such as checklists for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, which are related to the operations management of a Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 environment. In addition, guidance is provided for using Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 to monitor a SharePoint environment.

Fab 40 templates were free templates released by Microsoft for sharepoint 2007 and wss 3.0 to address some of the common scenarios encountered by SharePoint administrators, developers and event business/Marketing managers to demonstrate and show case some of the capabilities of MOSS to end users.
Discussion about that how good these templates are and in which scenario these are more helpful versus things which needs to be improved in these templates is a separate topic but I have noticed many SharePoint people using these templates either for small clients , for demonstration purpose and even for training purposes etc. ..
I have uploaded some of these Fab 40 templates for SP 2010, so now you can have Fab 40 for SP 2010, at least some of these are available for now…rest coming soon J .

This script configures the base sharepoint requirements for a multi-tenant sceanrio as detailed at http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010mt4.aspx
It creates and configures Managed Accounts, Application Pools, core Service Applications and a hosting Web Application and Managed Paths.
So what is Multi-Tenancy? In a word, it’s Hosting! A unique deployment for each customer on a shared set of infrastructure resources. The most common scenarios are
- “Traditional” Web Hosting Environments
- SharePoint Online
- Corporate On Premise Deployments
The last one here is interesting, there are a number of aspects which we will cover later which make multi-tenant an often requested and compelling deployment approach for large corporate on premise deployments.
A good analogy here is a flat or apartment building. In this real world case, multiple tenants share the same infrastructure (the building, the doors etc). In addition some services are shared but have no data (entry phone, refuse collection). Some other services are shared (electricity, telephone) and have data which should be partitioned (meter readings, billing). Some other services are a free for all (car parking).
