SharePoint Server 2010 (Part 7 of 8): Developing with SharePoint 2010 Sandboxed Solutions (Level 100)
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 adds a new deployment model for SharePoint called sandboxed solutions. Sandboxed solutions are a controlled solution packaging format that offers SharePoint Server Farm owners a way to easily mitigate the risk that custom code can cause issues for them. Sandboxed solutions do this by restricting the APIs that can be called and governing resources that can be used. Because of this, sandboxed solutions provide a solution package that can be easily deployed to a shared server environment. In this webcast, we explain what sandboxed solutions are, and we demonstrate how to create sandboxed solutions with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and how to deploy and monitor these solutions on SharePoint farms.

Just a quick note to make sure that anyone typing this error message into a search engine will find this post.
Due to a change in the SharePoint 2010 AllDocVersions table it is no longer possible to rebuild indexes as part of a SQL 2008 maintenance plan and keep the indexes on-line at the same time.
The reason behind this is that the MetaInfo field is no longer of type Image. It is now of type tCompressedBinary:varbinary(MAX).
If you get the error listed below then make sure you open the Rebuild Index Task in your SQL Maintenance plan and disable the ‘Keep index online while reindexing’ option.

We are quite surprised by the number of customers asking for Office 2010 support, especially considering that at the time of writing it is still in beta. On the other hand, it appears to be very stable and particularly the improvements in converting InfoPath forms to PDF format make it worth considering.

I initially floated the idea of a scrum tool for SharePoint just under a year ago and have at last managed to dedicate some time in order to make this idea a reality – internally this is called Project Aberdovey.

Four new MOC (Microsoft Official Curriculum Courses) which fit nicely with the 4 new exams. I’m very pleased to say that the curriculum for these courses was written by many experts we work with closely in the community. In fact the exams and courseware nearly all written by SharePoint MVPs. Great to have the involvement of Rob Bogue, Spence Harbar, Dan Holme, and others in the development of the MOC courses. Not sure I should say who were on the exam side, but let’s just say, they are people involved in the community that you’d likely see or hear from at a Tech Ed. For absolute best performance use a second internal SSD drive. Passwords for all users in the CONTOSO AD are "pass@word1" (remove quotes) (including the Administrator account).

186 individuals completed the survey. There were no duplicate or secondary responses from the same organization, so our research represents responses from 186 different organizations. Not everyone completed the survey and I did include answers to questions from those who did not finish the survey. Hence, as we move through this survey and discuss the results, bear in mind that not all of the responses will equal 186. Some will be less, but none will be more. Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 adds a new deployment model for SharePoint called sandboxed solutions. Sandboxed solutions are a controlled solution packaging format that offers SharePoint Server Farm owners a way to easily mitigate the risk that custom code can cause issues for them. Sandboxed solutions do this by restricting the APIs that can be called and governing resources that can be used. Because of this, sandboxed solutions provide a solution package that can be easily deployed to a shared server environment. SharePoint Server 2010 has been configured in a “Complete” farm using Kerberos authentication and the default SQL Server 2008 instance for data, and has a site collection created using the Team Site template at http://intranet.contoso.com/ and a FAST Search Center at http://intranet.contoso.com/search/. Performance Considerations 1. If possible, unpack and run the VM image on a separate, fast hard drive (7200 RPM or better) from the operating system of the host machine. If this is being done on a laptop, a second internal drive or external eSATA drive works best, though USB 2.0 (make sure it's 2.0, 1.1 is too slow) or Firewire is acceptable. For absolute best performance use a second internal SSD drive.

Hi! I'm Jason Morrill, another Program Manager on the SharePoint team. I wanted to write a bit about what it feels like to use SharePoint lists with the new user experience. If you've got a SharePoint site sitting around, I'd encourage you to open it in another window and follow along as I talk about things.
Let's start by just browsing to a document library with no content.
The first thing you'll notice is that we've moved some of the navigation and menus around. The stuff right in the middle (Site Name > Document Library > All Documents) is your current location. You can click on the Site Name to get back home, and you can click on the view name (All Documents) to switch to another view. Above the title, you see there's a black row - this is where you go to access all your commands. I’ll talk more about that later. Below the title, you see the list view items. Right now there are no items, so let's fix that. ….

Notable changes to the Pre-Upgrade Checker are improved reports, new rules, and additions to the stsadm –o EnumAllWebs command that enable you to list Web Parts, event receivers, features, or setuppath backed files. Additionally, support is added for listing custom list views.

In order to upgrade to SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010, you must first be running Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 at SP2 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 at SP2, respectively. For customers running prior versions of SharePoint, including Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 and SharePoint Portal Server 2003, this means that you must first upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP2 prior to upgrading to 2010 versions. Windows SharePoint Server 3.0 with SP2 is available as a free download, and trial versions of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 are available and supported for use in this upgrade/migration process:
