Download details: Developing SharePoint Applications–August 2009
The Developing SharePoint Applications guidance helps architects and developers design and build applications that are testable, extensible, and that provide the tools they need to maintain those applications and diagnose problems when they arise.
This release contains a written guide, an API reference, two reference implementations, a set of reusable components and QuickStarts. The reference implementations are named the Partner Portal application and the Training Management application.
The Partner Portal application uses Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. It shows how to create an extranet for companies who are partners with Contoso Pharmaceuticals.
The Training Management application uses Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0. It shows how to build a single intranet site. It is less complex than the Partner Portal application and demonstrates how to implement many basic SharePoint capabilities such as accessing lists and creating workflows.

- Building a simple solution
An increasingly popular choice for sharing data is Excel Services, which is available in MOSS. Using Excel 2007, you first create a workbook containing a pivot table that uses an SSAS cube as its data source and you then publish the data connection and your workbook to Excel Services. Although you can publish workbooks that contain data from other types of data sources, one of the advantages of using SSAS, pivot tables and Excel Services together is the ability to use much of the same cube browsing functionality within a pure HTML interface that preserves the familiarity of Excel. Another advantage is the ability to centralize the administration and access of Excel workbooks. For more information about Excel Services, refer to "Excel Services Technical Overview."
Yet another advantage of using Excel Services for cube browsing is that you can embed pivot tables and pivot charts into a MOSS dashboard page using the Excel Web Access Web Part. A dashboard is a special SharePoint content type that allows you to present data from multiple sources on a single page using a variety of Web Parts. You can even add a filter to the dashboard page and connect it to all or some of the Web Parts to dynamically change the content on the page based on the filter selection. Figure 3 shows a sample MOSS dashboard. MOSS also includes a Web Part to display SSRS reports that are stored on the MOSS server (an optional SSRS configuration known as integrated mode), or you can use Web Parts that ship with SSRS to display reports stored on the report server (the default configuration known as native mode).

Download details: Microsoft FTP Service 7.5 for IIS 7.0 (x64)
Microsoft has created a new FTP service that has been completely rewritten for Windows Server 2008. This new FTP service incorporates many new features that enable web authors to publish content better than before, and offers web administrators more security and deployment options. This new FTP service supports a wide range of features and improvements, and the following list contains several of the improvements in this version:
- Integration with IIS 7.0: IIS 7.0 has a brand-new administration interface and configuration store, and the new FTP service is tightly integrated with this new design. The old IIS 6 metabase is gone, and a new configuration store that is based on the .NET XML-based *.config format has taken its place. In addition, IIS 7.0 has a new administration tool, and the new FTP server plugs seamlessly into that paradigm.
- Support for new Internet standards: One of the most significant features in the new FTP server is support for FTP over SSL. The new FTP server also supports other Internet improvements such as UTF8, IPv6, and adaptive networking bandwidth usage.
- Shared hosting improvements: By fully integrating into IIS 7.0, the new FTP server makes it possible to host FTP and Web content from the same site by simply adding an FTP binding to an existing Web site. In addition, the FTP server now has virtual host name support, making it possible to host multiple FTP sites on the same IP address. The new FTP server also has improved user isolation, now making it possible to isolate users through per-user virtual directories.
- Extensibility and custom authentication: The new FTP server supports developer extensibility, making it possible for software vendors to write custom providers for FTP authentication. Microsoft is using this extensibility feature to implement two new methods for using non-Windows accounts for FTP authentication for IIS Managers and .NET Membership.
- Improved logging support: FTP logging has been enhanced to include all FTP-related traffic, unique tracking for FTP sessions, FTP sub-statuses, additional detail fields in FTP logs, and much more.
- New supportability features: IIS 7.0 has a new option to display detailed error messages for local users, and the FTP server supports this by providing detailed error responses when logging on locally to an FTP server. The FTP server also logs detailed information using Event Tracing for Windows (ETW), which provides additional detailed information for troubleshooting.

PerformancePoint Server 2007
Microsoft fournira une partie du code de
PerformancePoint Server 2007

How can you get the Financial Planning Accelerator?
To obtain access to the Financial Planning Accelerator a license agreement between Microsoft and the customer or partner is required. After that agreement is in place, download instructions will be made available. Please e-mail fpasupp@microsoft.com to request the agreement.

Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog : How We Did It: BDC Meta Man Web Edition
How We Did It: BDC Meta Man Web Edition
For today’s guest post, I’d like to introduce Nick Swan and Phill Duffy. Nick founded Lightning Tools with Brett Lonsdale in 2006 and BDC Meta Man was a result of their efforts. Fast forward to 2009 and Phill Duffy is part of the team (Nick Swan, Brett Londsdale, Dmitry Kaloshin, Michael Gamza, Hrayr Diloyan, Ashot Brahamyan, Karen Khumaryan & Hrachya Bekverdyan) that built and launched BDC Meta Man Web Edition. This post gets into the decisions and components they used to build a custom SharePoint solution. Enjoy!
Introduction
BDC Meta Man Web Edition was born from the success of BDC Meta Man and from listening to our users about how they wanted to interact with SharePoint and the Business Data Catalog.

SharePoint Disaster Recovery Advisor - SharePointforAll
Disaster Recovery Advisor is a companion tool for Quest Recovery Manager for SharePoint. It guides the you through the process of WSS v3 or MOSS 2007 farm restoration during disaster recovery. DR Advisor analyzes the live SharePoint configuration database, or the configuration database backup. It then creates a detailed checklist of actions required to return the SharePoint farm back to operational state and verifies each components' availability in real time. This allows you to quickly assess where you are in the SharePoint farm disaster recovery process and what servers, databases, or services have yet to be restored. DR Advisor also suggests appropriate psconfig.exe commands to properly re-provision SharePoint to the front-ends as you bring them back, and allows to re-create required SQL logins for SharePoint to work.
Questions and feedback are welcome in the Recovery Manager forum!

Did you know that you don’t have to write code to manage web site users in SharePoint?
SharePoint allows for end user site creation and when a user creates a site they can also manage the user permissions on that site. This topic shows how some aspects of user management are handled in SharePoint including how you can audit activities that users do and show different data depending on the role a user belongs to.

Jose Barreto's Blog : Experimenting with PowerShell
Powershell is a command line interface for Windows that offers a very powerful and flexible model.
It is now a feature included with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, not an optional download as before.
In this post, I show some sample commands that can help you understand some of the basic features and a few more complex ones.
If you never played with it before, try running some commands in a PowerShell prompt.
