- Initiation for new tenant is slow in the SharePoint Online farm that has large amount of existing taxonomy data.
- This hotfix changes the behavior of My Site Cleanup Timer Job to handle the case when a user has no manager.
- When you create a search scope by using FAST Search, you have to have a scope filter that matches the scope rules attached to the search scope. However, the scope filter is empty and must be set manually by using PowerShell when you create a new search scope.
- You cannot manage FAST user contexts if you do not have administrative credentials to SharePoint User Profile Service. By using this hotfix package, you can manage FAST user contexts even though you are not User Profile Service administrator. ---------------------------------------------
Issues that this hotfix package fixes SPF2010
- When you click Sign In as Different User to sign in by using new user credentials, you cannot access the expected resource.
- You cannot create a recurring calendar entry on a site that is created from a custom template.
- This fix adds a new health rule. This rule can inform an administrator whether the Business Connectivity Service (BCS) connectors are enabled or disabled in Microsoft SharePoint 2010. Therefore, the administrator can monitor the status of the BCS connectors.
- You add a large amount of content to a client notebook on a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 server that is under heavy load. After some time, the notebook is no longer synchronous with the server and you cannot save changes to the server. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

- Anonymous users cannot use Language Integrated Query (LINQ) to query data in Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010. Additionally, the anonymous users are prompted for user credentials when they use LINQ to query data.
- Consider the following scenario. You change the site level permission on a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 site. Then, you change some property of the site. In this scenario, the sitedata.asmx.GetChanges() web service method does not report the security change.
- The external content type name appears in the external list edit form if the optional field value is not present. Therefore, you cannot save the external list item successfully.
- The CopyIntoItems method in the Copy.asmx web servicedoes not assign the custom content type when you upload a file from the file system. Instead, it always assigns the default content type.
- When you click the Open this Task button in Microsoft Outlook, you cannot open the workflow task form from the notification email in Microsoft Outlook.
- Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft SharePoint Designer, you apply Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) to a view that contains a link field. Then, you add a Universal Name Convention (UNC) link that contains non-ASCII characters to the field. In this scenario, the link is broken when you open it.
- In the Turkish version of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you click the Help icon and you try to use the search function. However, the search function does not work.
- When you delete old versions of documents that contain web parts, spaces for the old versions in Microsoft SQL Server are not reclaimed.
- When you upload a picture in the CMYK pixel format to an asset library, the upload is completed successfully and you see a thumbnail in the asset library. However, when you hover the mouse pointer over the thumbnail, the preview window does not show the picture in Windows Internet Explorer.
- In sandbox solutions, Partially Trusted Code (PTC) usage decreases when the number of max processes per application server increases.
- When you save a team site as a template, the web part that is used in the original site does not carry the correct view to the newly created site.
- This fix adds support for both HTTP-based host-named site collections and HTTPS-based host-named site collections to coexist in the same web application. By default this support is disabled. To enable this support, set the
Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebService.ContentService.EnableHostHeaderSiteBasedSchemeSelection property to true. As soon as it is enabled, SharePoint will no longer use the web application's default zone public URL protocol scheme for all host-named site collections in that web application. Instead, SharePoint will use the protocol scheme provided during host-named site collection creation, restoration, or rename. Host-named site collections that are created before this update is installed will default to use the HTTP protocol scheme if this property is set to true. These site collections can be switched to use the HTTPS protocol scheme by renaming the host-named site collection and providing an HTTPS-based URL as the new site collection URL. - Consider the following scenario. You delete a picture library item. Then, you restore the item from the Recycle Bin and then delete the item again. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint '<KeyName>'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object '<ObjectName>'. The statement has been terminated.
- This fix improves the performance of migration time for users across all sites.

Microsoft has developed the Productivity Hub to help support your ongoing end user training efforts.
The Hub is a SharePoint Server site collection for 2007 and 2010 that serves as a learning community and is fully customizable. It provides a central place for your training efforts, and includes training content from Microsoft’s core products. Microsoft also provides ongoing and updated content packs.
The Hub uses SharePoint Server’s social networking capabilities, such as blogs and discussion groups. In addition, it offers the Coach program, a change management feature to help you train end users to self-help, reducing the burden on your training and IT staff. The Coach program impacts productivity in a collaborative and positive way.
The 2010 version of the Productivity Hub includes a quiz feature, a section called ‘Get it Done’ that offers training for tasks such as email management and collaboration, and also features Silverlight. There will be a non-Silverlight version of the 2010 Hub delivered in late June.
The 2007 Hub contains 2007 content only (v2) with 2010 content added in v3 (to be released in June 2010). You can also add 2010 content packages to your current Hub. Watch for more document on migration from your 2007 Hub to your 2010 Hub.

SHAREPOINT 2010 40 Templates for SPS 2010
Fab 40 templates were free templates released by Microsoft for sharepoint 2007 and wss 3.0 to address some of the common scenarios encountered by SharePoint administrators, developers and event business/Marketing managers to demonstrate and show case some of the capabilities of MOSS to end users.
Discussion about that how good these templates are and in which scenario these are more helpful versus things which needs to be improved in these templates is a separate topic but I have noticed many SharePoint people using these templates either for small clients , for demonstration purpose and even for training purposes etc. ..

Project Description
A set of tools for managing upgradable Features in SharePoint 2010. (Upgrading Features is a means of deploying code/artifact updates to existing SharePoint sites).You have developed Features for SharePoint 2007, you’re probably aware of a very serious limitation of Feature Development: upgradability. Deploying version 1 of your customization is no problem, but If you want to deploy a bug fix or additional functionality in version 2, you’re basically on your own. In SharePoint 2010, this problem is solved, you can now build features that are upgradable. You can built your feature as usual, and optionally you’ve got the opportunity to specify what should happen when the feature gets upgraded from a previous version.
Background of the TOOL CODEPLEX
SharePoint 2010 introduces the concept of 'versioned' or 'upgradable' Features, as a means of applying updates to existing sites. A new version of a Feature is created by modifying the definition (with new XML or code) and incrementing the version number. For the change to be applied, existing Feature instances (e.g. in each web for a web-scoped Feature) must be upgraded. SharePoint 2010 does not ship with any admin screen, STSADM command or PowerShell cmdlet to manage this process. The only way to upgrade Features is to write code - however, this kit provides tools so that no code is required on your behalf; I've done it for you.

The kit is comprised of 3 things:
- An application page in Central Admin - administrators can use this to upgrade Features of any scope across the entire farm
- An OPTIONAL page in each site collection's Site Settings - this can be used to devolve responsibility for upgrading Features (and therefore updating functionality provided by developers) to local site administrators. A Feature must be enabled on each site to enable this.
- COMING SOON - a PowerShell cmdlet which allows Feature upgrade to be run from script. (This is the final piece and will be ready shortly, since the core logic is implemented already.)

SharePoint 2010 introduces additional lifecycle management capabilities with the ability to version and upgrade Features. There are some declarative elements such as ApplyElementManifests and AddContentTypeField, but using the CustomUpgradeAction element allows you to shell out to code where necessary.
The only way to actually perform upgrade on a Feature once it has been updated is to call SPFeature.Upgrade() on each instance of the Feature (e.g. in each web) which should be upgraded – new QueryFeatures() methods help you locate Feature instances which can be upgraded. I’ve written a custom application page which helps manage this process, to be discussed next time.

Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 MOSS Configuration Tool
You can use this tool to configure an existing installation of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 for use with Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010. The tool automates the configuration of the following features with certain default values, which are explained in the configuration instructions that are included with the tool. The tool will skip configuring a feature if it is already enabled and configured.
The configuration tool is designed to configure relatively simple deployments of Office SharePoint Server 2007 or SharePoint Server 2010. The tool uses default settings to configure the features. You should not use this tool if any of the following is true:
- your deployment requires the use of specific ports or protocols
- your deployment utilizes multiple application-tier servers for the server farm
- you want to configure your deployment with settings other than the default ones used by the tool

The Microsoft SharePoint Administration Toolkit :
contains the following tools to help manage SharePoint 2010 Foundation and SharePoint 2010 Server:
- Security Configuration Wizard (SCW) manifests, which add roles for SharePoint 2010 Products to Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 or to Windows Server 2008 R2.
SCW is an attack surface reduction tool introduced with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. SCW uses a roles-based metaphor to solicit the functionality required for a server and disables the functionality that is not required. By automating this security best practice, SCW helps to create Windows environments that are less susceptible, on the whole, to security vulnerabilities that have been exploited. For more information about SCW in Windows Server 2008, see Security Configuration Wizard (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=185511). - Load Testing Toolkit (LTK), which generates a Visual Studio Team System 2008 (VSTS) load test based on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 IIS logs. The VSTS load test can be used to generate synthetic load against SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 as part of a capacity planning exercise or a pre-upgrade stress test.

To install Service Pack 1, see Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=116488). - User Profile Replication Engine 2010 (UPRE2010), which provides a shared services administrator the ability to replicate user profiles and social data between shared services providers (SSP) in Office SharePoint Server 2007 and User Profile service applications in SharePoint Server 2010. This Windows PowerShell-based tool is not supported for SharePoint Foundation 2010.
- Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) connector for SharePoint Server 2010
The Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) connector for SharePoint Server 2010 enables SharePoint users to interact with content stored in any repository that has implemented the CMIS standard, as well as making SharePoint 2010 content available to any application that has implemented the CMIS standard.
The CMIS connector for SharePoint Server 2010 includes two features:- The Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) Consumer Web Part, which can be added to any SharePoint page. This Web Part displays and lets users interact with the contents of any CMIS repository.
- The Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) Producer, which allows applications to interact with SharePoint lists and document libraries programmatically by means of the interfaces defined in the CMIS standard.

This tool is not supported for SharePoint Foundation 2010.

The upgrade and migration space seems like it’s getting crowded. How does one navigate this space? First let me say that despite what I say, it will appear I’m biased due to my affiliation with Quest software as a paid employee, no I don’t have a quota or get paid any extra for this post. If anything there’s more risk than reward for a post like this. In the past when I’m asked specific requirements I try to push the vendor with the best solution. Here I will list the various Upgrade and Migration vendors. Many will be releasing their solutions RTM +60 including many making their announcements in June 2010 for their 2010 Solutions. I highly encourage you to e
xplore their solutions with them. Special thanks to Owen Allen, Inna Gordin, and a great post by Deepak Bhat “10 Content Migration Tools to SharePoint Platform” which inspired me to not just include the traditional SharePoint vendors, but others that aren’t so traditional and dig even deeper for new ones. This demonstration illustrates the sequence of events that occurs when you initiate a full crawl. The video shows the following events:
- Replication of content source data to the search registry hive on each crawl server
- Crawling of Web sites and SharePoint site structures
- Processing by the content processing pipeline, including word breakers, IFilters, and indexing
- Replication of the index to query servers
The scenario depicted assumes a single crawl database and a single index partition.
