We recently released a Microsoft Security Advisory for a vulnerability affecting ASP.NET. This post documents recommended workarounds for the following SharePoint products:

A workaround is not necessary for SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

SAP have announced full support of SQL 2008 R2
SAP has announced the full General Availability and Unrestricted Support for SQL 2008 R2 as of 16th September 2010. OSS Note 1076022 has been updated with the following text:

Due to increasing requests, we attempted to set up some of the templates and were successful in doing that. We have been posting the individual templates for SP Foundation 2010 to individual requesting clients and after receiving a general positive response I am posting some of the templates for Fab 40 for the Sharepoint Foundation in this blog post and a readme file with setup instructions. Please review the templates and feel free to post your feedback.

Fab 40 templates were free templates released by Microsoft for sharepoint 2007 and wss 3.0 to address some of the common scenarios encountered by SharePoint administrators, developers and event business/Marketing managers to demonstrate and show case some of the capabilities of MOSS to end users.
Discussion about that how good these templates are and in which scenario these are more helpful versus things which needs to be improved in these templates is a separate topic but I have noticed many SharePoint people using these templates either for small clients , for demonstration purpose and even for training purposes etc. ..
I have uploaded some of these Fab 40 templates for SP 2010, so now you can have Fab 40 for SP 2010, at least some of these are available for now…rest coming soon J .

It creates and configures Managed Accounts, Application Pools, core Service Applications and a hosting Web Application and Managed Paths.
So what is Multi-Tenancy? In a word, it’s Hosting! A unique deployment for each customer on a shared set of infrastructure resources. The most common scenarios are
- “Traditional” Web Hosting Environments
- SharePoint Online
- Corporate On Premise Deployments
The last one here is interesting, there are a number of aspects which we will cover later which make multi-tenant an often requested and compelling deployment approach for large corporate on premise deployments.
A good analogy here is a flat or apartment building. In this real world case, multiple tenants share the same infrastructure (the building, the doors etc). In addition some services are shared but have no data (entry phone, refuse collection). Some other services are shared (electricity, telephone) and have data which should be partitioned (meter readings, billing). Some other services are a free for all (car parking).

Important
SharePoint Foundation 2010 is not included in Windows SBS 2008. Because of this, the following features of Windows SBS 2008 do not work after you migrate to SharePoint Foundation 2010:
• Fax services for network users
• Archive e-mail messages that are sent to a security group on a WSS 3.0 website.
Migration Steps :
This section lists the steps necessary to install SharePoint Foundation 2010 on a server running Windows Small Business Server 2008, and then to migrate your WSS 3.0 websites to SharePoint Foundation 2010. Follow the steps in the order listed to migrate successfully.
• Step 1: Install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
• Step 2: Run the pre-upgrade checker for SharePoint Foundation 2010
• Step 3: Back up the existing data on your server
• Step 4: Back up the Windows Internal Database files
• Step 5: Uninstall Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and edit the Registry
• Step 6: Install Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 in Farm mode

Microsoft has developed the Productivity Hub to help support your ongoing end user training efforts.
The Hub is a SharePoint Server site collection for 2007 and 2010 that serves as a learning community and is fully customizable. It provides a central place for your training efforts, and includes training content from Microsoft’s core products. Microsoft also provides ongoing and updated content packs.
The Hub uses SharePoint Server’s social networking capabilities, such as blogs and discussion groups. In addition, it offers the Coach program, a change management feature to help you train end users to self-help, reducing the burden on your training and IT staff. The Coach program impacts productivity in a collaborative and positive way.
The 2010 version of the Productivity Hub includes a quiz feature, a section called ‘Get it Done’ that offers training for tasks such as email management and collaboration, and also features Silverlight. There will be a non-Silverlight version of the 2010 Hub delivered in late June.
The 2007 Hub contains 2007 content only (v2) with 2010 content added in v3 (to be released in June 2010). You can also add 2010 content packages to your current Hub. Watch for more document on migration from your 2007 Hub to your 2010 Hub.

Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for Access is a tool for migrating databases from Microsoft Access to SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2. SSMA 2008 for Access also supports migrating to SQL Azure.
SSMA for Access converts Access database objects to SQL Server database objects, loads those objects into SQL Server, and then migrates data from Access to SQL Server. You can also link Access tables to SQL Server tables so that you can continue to use your existing Access front-end applications with SQL Server or SQL Azure.

Project Description
A set of tools for managing upgradable Features in SharePoint 2010. (Upgrading Features is a means of deploying code/artifact updates to existing SharePoint sites).You have developed Features for SharePoint 2007, you’re probably aware of a very serious limitation of Feature Development: upgradability. Deploying version 1 of your customization is no problem, but If you want to deploy a bug fix or additional functionality in version 2, you’re basically on your own. In SharePoint 2010, this problem is solved, you can now build features that are upgradable. You can built your feature as usual, and optionally you’ve got the opportunity to specify what should happen when the feature gets upgraded from a previous version.
Background of the TOOL CODEPLEX
SharePoint 2010 introduces the concept of 'versioned' or 'upgradable' Features, as a means of applying updates to existing sites. A new version of a Feature is created by modifying the definition (with new XML or code) and incrementing the version number. For the change to be applied, existing Feature instances (e.g. in each web for a web-scoped Feature) must be upgraded. SharePoint 2010 does not ship with any admin screen, STSADM command or PowerShell cmdlet to manage this process. The only way to upgrade Features is to write code - however, this kit provides tools so that no code is required on your behalf; I've done it for you.

The kit is comprised of 3 things:
- An application page in Central Admin - administrators can use this to upgrade Features of any scope across the entire farm
- An OPTIONAL page in each site collection's Site Settings - this can be used to devolve responsibility for upgrading Features (and therefore updating functionality provided by developers) to local site administrators. A Feature must be enabled on each site to enable this.
- COMING SOON - a PowerShell cmdlet which allows Feature upgrade to be run from script. (This is the final piece and will be ready shortly, since the core logic is implemented already.)

There are some declarative elements such as ApplyElementManifests and AddContentTypeField, but using the CustomUpgradeAction element allows you to shell out to code where necessary.
The only way to actually perform upgrade on a Feature once it has been updated is to call SPFeature.Upgrade() on each instance of the Feature (e.g. in each web) which should be upgraded – new QueryFeatures() methods help you locate Feature instances which can be upgraded. I’ve written a custom application page which helps manage this process, to be discussed next time.
